Of African American Pastors
It is indisputable that there are different races of people and cultures in our country. It is undeniable that different churches have different focuses or emphases; but are there different challenges that are faced by African American pastors, particularly in the South, as opposed to other pastors. This book seeks to answer this question and to highlight such challenges.
This book begins with the history of how the African American church began in the South and follows its development, pausing along the way to examine key issues that still impact the African American church and pastor of today. The book also references past studies along with including survey information, interviews, etc. from this author to determine differences between those pastoring in white congregations as opposed to those pastoring in African American congregations. Also, there are recommendations made as to how an African American pastor of a small church in the South can minister effectively, in respect to the unique challenges he or she may face.
